My experience as a fresher in Covenant University
Surviving Hebron: Chronicles of My First Day
They say the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Well, my journey at Covenant University (CU) began with a very specific step: stepping into my corporate wear and realizing, "Wow, this is actually happening."
Walking through the gates of Hebron for the first time as a student wasn't just about entering a university; it felt like entering a new world. The air was different, the energy was high, and the sun in Ota? It was definitely shining a little brighter (and hotter) today.
Here is how my Day One went down, from the stress of the lecture halls to the joy of new faces.
The Reality Check: "Stressful" is an Understatement
I had heard stories about the academic rigor here, but experiencing it firsthand is a different ball game. I walked into my first lecture ready to take notes, but I wasn't prepared for the marathon.
- The Rush: Finding the lecture hall was a mission in itself. I power-walked across campus, trying to look composed in my formal attire while internally panicking that I was going to be late.
- The Intensity: The lecturers didn't waste time with "icebreakers." We dove straight into the syllabus. It was hours of rapid-fire information, slide after slide. My hand cramped, my brain fried, and for a second, I wondered, "How am I going to survive four years of this?"
The Silver Lining: Meeting the Tribe
Just when I thought my brain was about to shut down during a break between classes, the best part of the day happened.
I turned to the person sitting next to me—a fellow fresher who looked just as bewildered as I felt. We exchanged that universal look of "What just happened?" and burst out laughing.
- Trauma Bonding: There is nothing quite like a stressful day to bring people together. I met Tolu, who helped me figure out the timetable, and Chidi, who made a joke that instantly lightened the mood.
- The "Hebron" Welcome: We spent the break sharing stories about where we came from and our first impressions of the campus. It’s crazy how quickly strangers can turn into potential besties when you are all navigating the same new waters.
The Verdict
By the time I got back to my hall, my feet were aching, and my brain was full. It was arguably one of the most stressful days I’ve had in a long time, but it was also one of the most fulfilling.
Covenant University demands a lot from you, even on day one. But looking back at the new contacts on my phone and the notes in my book, I realized something important: We are all in this together.
So, here is to surviving the stress, embracing the corporate grind, and making memories with new friends. Day One is down. A few hundred more to go.
Hebron, let’s do this.
